USD prices are from Anthropic’s pricing page and Help Center. INR prices are from press reports of the rupee prices shown in India since July 2026; Anthropic’s public pricing page lists only dollars. Where a cell says “check”, sources disagree or are thin, so treat the price in your account as the real one. All rows last checked 13 Oct 2026.

Is Claude Code free?

No. Anthropic’s Claude Code documentation says it needs a Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account, and that the free Claude plan does not include Claude Code access. Installing the tool costs nothing, but you cannot use it without one of those accounts.

That leaves two ways to pay for Claude Code:

  • A Claude subscription. Claude Code is included in Pro, Max, Team (both seat types) and Enterprise. It draws on the same usage limits as your chats, so heavy coding days use up the allowance you would otherwise spend in the Claude app.
  • A Claude Console API key. You pay per token at the published API rates, in US dollars, with no monthly fee. This suits occasional use or automated jobs, but costs can climb quickly on large codebases, so set a spend limit.

So the answer to “what is the Claude Code price in India” is the price of the plan you put it on: from a reported ₹2,000–2,399 a month on Pro, or pay-as-you-go on the API. For how Claude Code compares with an editor-based tool, read Claude Code vs Cursor.

Claude in rupees: what the sources say

On 13 July 2026, TechCrunch reported that Anthropic had started showing rupee prices to users in India on the web and in the mobile apps, with local taxes included. Several Indian outlets followed with numbers that look different at first glance. Most of the gaps disappear once you separate the billing period from GST:

  • Pro, ₹2,033.05 vs ₹2,399 vs ₹2,000. The ANI wire report gives ₹2,033.05 a month billed monthly plus GST. Add 18% and you get ₹2,399, which is the monthly price other lists give including GST. TechCrunch’s ₹2,000 a month is the annual-billing rate, which works out to ₹24,000 a year.
  • Max. Reports agree that Max starts at ₹11,999 a month including GST. Only secondary price lists give the Max 20x figure of ₹23,999; we could not find it in a primary news report.
  • Team. ANI gives ₹2,399 per seat for Standard and ₹11,999 for Premium including GST, with monthly-billing options of ₹2,999 and ₹14,999. The ratio matches the dollar discount for annual billing ($20 vs $25), so the lower figures are most likely annual rates, but ANI does not say so in plain words and Business Today describes ₹2,399 as a monthly price.

Two more cautions. TechCrunch notes that prices in the mobile apps vary slightly from the website. And Anthropic did not respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment, so there is no official rupee price list to point to. Before you buy, open Settings, then Billing, or the upgrade page in your account and read the price and currency it shows you.

Each plan in detail

Free

Claude on the web, desktop and mobile with lower usage limits. It does not include Claude Code. Good for trying Claude for writing and analysis before you pay.

Pro

Anthropic lists Pro at $20 a month, or $17 a month when you pay $200 for a year up front. Pro includes Claude Code. Usage resets every five hours and there is also a weekly limit across all models. In India, the reported rupee price is ₹2,399 a month or ₹2,000 a month on annual billing, including GST.

Max 5x and Max 20x

Max gives five times or twenty times Pro’s per-session usage, at $100 or $200 a month. Anthropic’s Help Center says Max is sold as a monthly subscription only and that its listed prices apply to web purchases. Reported rupee prices are ₹11,999 (Max 5x) and ₹23,999 (Max 20x) a month, including GST. Max is for people who hit Pro’s limits most days, usually because they run Claude Code for hours at a time.

Team: Standard and Premium seats

Team is for 2 to 150 people with central billing and admin controls. A Standard seat costs $25 a month, or $20 a month on annual billing, includes Claude Code and gives 1.25 times Pro’s per-session usage. A Premium seat costs $125 a month, or $100 a month on annual billing, and gives 6.25 times Pro’s per-session usage. You can mix seat types, so most teams buy Standard for everyone and Premium only for their heaviest Claude Code users. Team is paid by credit, debit or prepaid card; ACH bank transfers are not supported.

Enterprise

Enterprise uses one seat type with a seat fee billed annually; usage is billed separately at API rates with spend limits set by admins. Anthropic’s pricing page shows the seat at $20 per user a month. Self-serve Enterprise needs at least 20 seats and the sales-assisted version at least 50. Anthropic says to contact sales for invoicing or to pay in a currency other than US dollars, so ask sales about rupee billing. Each seat includes Claude Code.

API (pay as you go)

Developers who build Claude into their own products pay per million input and output tokens, in US dollars, with rates that differ by model. Anthropic keeps the current rates on its API pricing page (opens in a new tab). A Console API key also works with Claude Code.

GST, invoices and payment methods

  • Rupee prices include GST, according to every report we found. Dollar prices on Anthropic’s pricing page do not include tax.
  • Tax depends on your billing address, which Anthropic takes from your payment method. Paid accounts can add a tax ID in Settings, then Billing; changes apply only to future invoices. Check that your GSTIN and business address appear on your invoice if you plan to claim input tax credit, and ask your accountant how to treat it.
  • No UPI on the web. Anthropic accepts only credit or debit cards for subscriptions bought on the web. In the iOS and Android apps, the App Store or Google Play decides the payment options. TechCrunch reported in July 2026 that Anthropic had not enabled UPI.
  • Dollar billing costs more than the sticker price. If your account is still billed in dollars, your bank converts the charge and may add a foreign-currency markup.

Monthly or annual billing?

Annual billing is cheaper where it is offered: Pro drops from $20 to $17 a month (₹2,399 to a reported ₹2,000), and Team Standard from $25 to $20 per seat. Max has no annual option. Pay annually only once you know the plan fits, because you pay for the year up front. For a team, start monthly with a small group, watch who hits limits, then move the seats that stay busy to annual billing.

Which Claude plan should you pick?

  • Trying Claude out: Free. Upgrade when you hit the limits or want Claude Code.
  • One developer, a few hours of Claude Code a day: Pro. Pay annually once you are sure.
  • One developer who runs into Pro’s limits most days: Max 5x. Move to Max 20x only if Max 5x still runs out.
  • A small company or dev team (2–150 people): Team with Standard seats, plus Premium seats for the few heaviest users. You get shared billing, admin controls and Claude Code for everyone.
  • Large organisations, or anyone needing invoicing or non-USD billing: Enterprise, through Anthropic’s sales team.
  • Building Claude into your own product: the API.

For a whole dev team, the plan matters less than how you roll it out: who gets which seat, shared rules files, and a monthly budget per person. Our AI Coding Tools for Dev Teams service covers that, and AI Tool Setup and Rollout covers Claude for non-developers.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Code free?

No. Claude Code is not included in the Free Claude plan. You need a paid plan (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise) or a Claude Console account that pays for API use per token. The cheapest way in is Claude Pro: $20 a month in the US, or a reported ₹2,399 a month (₹2,000 a month on annual billing) where your account shows rupee prices.

What is the Claude Pro price in India?

Reports of the rupee prices that appeared in July 2026 give ₹2,399 a month on monthly billing and ₹2,000 a month (₹24,000 a year) on annual billing, both including 18% GST. The ₹2,033.05 figure quoted by some outlets is the same monthly price before GST. Anthropic has not published an Indian price list on its public pricing page, so check the price shown in your own account.

How much does Claude Code cost?

Claude Code has no separate price. It comes with Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, and it shares your plan’s usage limits. If you use it with a Claude Console API key instead, you pay per token at the published API rates.

How much is the Claude Team plan in India?

Team Standard seats are $25 per seat a month on monthly billing or $20 on annual billing in the US. Reported rupee prices are ₹2,999 a month or ₹2,399 a month per seat including GST, with Premium seats at ₹14,999 or ₹11,999. Sources do not all agree on which billing period the lower figures belong to, so confirm in your account. Team needs at least 2 seats and supports up to 150.

What is the Claude Max price?

Max 5x is $100 a month and Max 20x is $200 a month in the US, billed monthly only. Reported rupee prices are ₹11,999 a month for Max 5x and ₹23,999 a month for Max 20x, including GST. The Max 20x rupee price comes from fewer sources, so check it in your account before you buy.

Can I pay for Claude with UPI?

Not on the web. Anthropic accepts only credit or debit cards for subscriptions bought on the web. If you subscribe in the iOS or Android app, the payment options are set by the App Store or Google Play.

Do Claude’s rupee prices include GST?

Press reports say the rupee prices shown in India include GST. Dollar prices on Anthropic’s pricing page do not include tax; tax is worked out from your billing address at checkout. If your business needs GST invoices, check how your invoice shows tax after your first payment.
